What is Biofeedback? Biofeedback is simply the use of a machine that measures changes in some of your body's activities and feeds back information to you. Sensors from the machine are placed over muscles or finger tips and pick up signals from your body. Biofeedback (body feedback) comes to you as a sound or visual display which changes as your muscle or nervous system becomes more relaxed. You can use this information to learn how to relax, manage stress, reduce anxiety, and decrease or control pain symptoms. Biofeedback training can help you take back control of your body. It can also help to improve resistance and recovery from stress. Stress and tension are normal and sometimes a healthy part of daily life. Unfortunately, as tension builds up in your body and is not released through methods such as relaxation or exercise, it can prevent your body from working properly. You can HELP yourself by learning skills to better manage:
How does Biofeedback work? Improving your awareness of muscles and nervous system tension and relaxation is the first goal of Biofeedback training. Information from the biofeedback machine will guide you as you learn to connect increases or decreases in tension with body sensation changes. You will also practice with CD/audio training at home which is designed to improve regulation skills. Controlling the build-up of muscle or nervous tension during your day and learning to become more deeply relaxed are additional goals of Biofeedback training. What to Expect Training takes place in a private office. Sessions are one hour in length, taking place once or twice per week for 4 to 15 sessions based on your specific needs. Your Biofeedback Therapist has been certified by the Biofeedback Institute of America and has been trained to help you learn to manage your stress, tension, and pain. |
